Credit point check

The CP check ensures that students meet the prerequisites for the thesis application. Among other things, the number of credit points earned (at least 50 credit points relevant to graduation are required) and their module assignments are verified. In addition, students must have fulfilled any additional requirements. Finally, students should have completed:

  • the „Research Design MSD Master’s" course,
  • the seminar paper,
  • the master’s colloquium A "Introduction to the Ongoing MSD Master’s Thesis“,
  • and the Independent Research Work (required for some MSD 2026 students) before beginning their Master’s thesis.

To complete the CP check, the following documents must be submitted to the MSD office via coordination-msd@unibas.ch before students submit the thesis application:

  • admission letter of the University of Basel informing you about the admission to the MSD; and, where available, additional sheet with information regarding additional requirements. If you do not have a PDF of these, you can also send them to me as a photo;
  • academic progress summary (PDF to be downloaded via online services)
  • personal study progress plan; templates available for MSD 2017; and for MSD 2026
  • the listing of the courses is done according to the module assignments. If you are not sure about the module allocation, consider the information in the medium-term syllabus;
  • list all courses/assignments you have passed so far, including those you plan to pass in the coming semester.
  • learning agreement(s), if you have;
  • learning contracts, if you have;
  • application approval(s) (e.g. for the recognition of credit points earnd during a mobility semester, etc.), if you have.

Students will get a feedback with details about the CP check and next steps to consider.
